It’s about time!

clock

The times, they are a-changin’.

And to that? We say “good”! We’re happy to spring forward and adjust our clocks accordingly. We’ll still have our same office hours, and the change to Daylight Savings Time won’t have any affect on our ability to get all ads posted on thepapershop.com within 30 minutes of when we get ‘em.

As you adjust every timepiece in your house (and change your smoke alarm batteries) this weekend, remember that you have Benjamin Franklin to thank: Franklin proposed the notion of changing clocks way back in 1784. His reasoning was that adjusting the time to match the increasing daylight would result in savings in the amount of candles used.

Daylight Savings begins this Sunday, March 10th, at 2:00 am.

Many Happy Returns

tax

We find that our 30 word limit on commission ads works pretty well, but we can only imagine the size of an ad containing the U.S. tax code: it contains over 7 million words!

It’s that time of year. From now until April 15, tax season is upon us. And for many of us, those tax returns turn into income tax refunds. Translation: extra money!

It’s been our experience that we get a boost in reported sales this time of year. Whether it’s because everyone’s recovering from the holidays or it’s due to folks getting those refund checks, we find that items seem to move especially quickly right about now. So if you’ve been on the fence about selling? Now might be the time to give us a call or check out thepapershop.com. Tax us with the duty of selling your stuff – we’re happy to oblige!

February Predictions

groundhog

Here’s hoping for a shadow-free Saturday.

We’ve got our fingers crossed, but it really is all up to Punxsutawney Phil. The tradition holds that if he sees his shadow, we’re in for six more weeks of winter. If it’s cloudy and there’s no shadow, spring is just around the corner. Us? We’re firmly in the spring-just-around-the-corner camp.

February is just about here, and it’s going to be an exciting month! We’ve got the first of three flooring giveaways on February 14 and we’re already lining up giveaways for February broadcasts of Paper Shop Live.

Help us kick off the second month of 2013 in style: shadow or not, join us on Saturday morning at 9 for Paper Shop Live! Better yet, call the show and tell us about what you’ve got. Even if you don’t currently have an ad with us, you are welcome to call the show and talk about what you’d like to sell: 1-888-303-0630

Countdown to the Game (And the Ads!)

football

It’s not too often that you can predict exactly what you’ll be doing in 12 days, but we’re willing to bet that a huge number of people are able to do precisely that. We can: we’ll be tuning in to the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 3.

It may come as no surprise to you that we’ve got a special fondness when it comes to the big game. That fondness isn’t especially for the Ravens or the 49ers (though both are worthy adversaries). No, with us it’s all about the Superbowl ads! We’re not alone in that: studies show that 1 viewer in 10 watches the game purely for the commercials. Whether it’s for cars, fast food or electronics, we love the advertisements.

It’s been reported that television advertising during the game has reached a record high price tag of $4,000,000 per 30 second spot. Ouch! We’re positive, too, that CBS isn’t giving advertisers the option to pay when they sell (like we do). Our maximum commission of $70 is pretty modest, too!

Snow Report!

Ah. Winter in NE PA.

If you’re a fan of the white stuff, this seems to be your year! Even if you’re not, you can always embrace the unavoidable and check out some winter sports. Maybe it’s time to learn how to cross-country ski. Or perhaps resolve that 2013′s the year that you finally tackle snowboarding. After all, we’re surrounded by some of the most picturesque and exciting ski resorts in the Northeast – put ‘em to use! (Check out what’s up in the Poconos for Learn to Ski & Snowboard Month or even learn to snowshoe for free)

We offer a surprising amount of winter sports gear in our pages and on our website. From winter sports gloves to cheap skis for beginners, snowboards to ski pants, we’ll get you all set. Check out our Sports Equipment category (and even the Under $25 category) and see what’s around to make Old Man Winter just a little less disagreeable.

Buy sports collectibles. Or sell them. We’ve got you covered!

Steadfast Steelers fan? Committed Cowboy devotee? Then you’re probably either the owner of some pretty interesting sports memorabilia or you’d really like to be!

We had the opportunity to talk to A.J. Hiller, owner of MMA Signatures, on Paper Shop Live! this past Saturday (check out the podcast).  Collectibles – especially sports ones – are pretty hot commodities, and we love it when we get to talk to collectors and sellers.

Our Collectibles category is one of our most interesting ones, and the  items that show up in that section tend to lend themselves particularly well to selling over the air. Whether it’s hockey memorabilia or autographed jerseys, it’s interesting to hear details about the items and great to have a chance to ask questions.

We’ll be lining up more experts for our 2013 Paper Shop Live! broadcasts, and we’d love to hear your questions, either on the air or on Twitter. Sound off, sports fans!
