The Big Picture

FordQuadricycle

On this day in 1896, Henry Ford did a test run. He took his invention, called the quadricycle, for a pre-dawn spin through the streets of Detroit. Of course, it was his intention that the new horseless carriage should remain relatively unnoticed.

But your horseless carriage? Let’s get it seen!

When you advertise your car, truck or motorcycle on a commission basis and you’re asking $2100 or more, we can publish a color photo if it. Best of all? It’s free to do!

You can get the photo to us when you place the ad or even add it after the ad has begun running: simply go to thepapershop.com, choose “Change or Correct Ad” at the bottom of the page, and upload the pictures. You’re also welcome to mail the photos to us at PO Box 3176, Scranton, PA 18505 or even bring the vehicle to our office & we’ll take the picture.

Istanbul (or Constantinople?)

Map

Today’s the anniversary of the 1453 fall of Constantinople. But was it Istanbul? Or Constantinople? (And, hey – how did Constantinople get the works? Guess that’s nobody’s business but the Turks’.)

We’re risking a pretty severe case of earworm to make a point: sometimes something that’s very familiar can have two different names. A great example is our Non-Commission ads. If you’ve advertised with us, you probably know that Non-Commission is essentially a fancy-pants was of saying Pre-Paid; since the ad does not run on a commission basis, the payment schedule works according to the number of words in the ad plus how many issues you’d like it to run. It’s pre-paid and not a commission ad, ergo the Non-Commission handle.

Now if we could just get that song out of our heads …

Can we have a word with you? How about 30?

Words

They say that less is more, and in some cases it’s certainly true. We’re happy to take your straightforward, pared-down ad. In fact, all you really need to do is tell us what you’re selling and include a price and phone number.

But sometimes the devil is in the details, and you need to include specific facts about the item. And sometimes you just feel like it takes a little more information for people to truly appreciate your item. We get that.

Commission ads have a limit of 30 words. We’re more than happy to work with you to fit everything you’d like to say into your ad; each of our representatives has years of experience getting your description into those 30 words. If you’d like to get wordier, we can help with that, too. It’s just $2 for every 10 words over 30.

Get Real (Estate)

ForSale

Take it to the max. Because the max is only $70. And when it’s real estate that you’re selling, $70 is a very square deal.

As you may already know, the commission due when an item sells is based on the printed asking price. The maximum commission we charge is $70 – anything with an asking price of $2100 or more would carry that max commission and nothing more. So if you’re selling that lakeside cottage for $20,000? The commission’s $70. If you have Commercial or warehouse property for $429,000? $70. Impressive acreage for $2,000,000? Still $70.

FAQ: Can I post pictures of my item online?

Question mark

Questions. We love ‘em. When somebody has a question for us here at Paper Shop, we know that they’re either already advertising with us or thinking of giving us a try. We’re happy to help with and all inquiries, and we’ve found that a number of them are, well, frequently asked questions. Here’s where we take some time to talk about them.

A commission ad might run to thirty words, but what would you say if we offered you the chance at four thousand words? For free? After all, they say a picture’s worth a thousand words; since we offer up to four photos with every ad, you’ve got the chance to get pretty wordy.

When you place your ad on thepapershop.com, you can attach pictures right along with the ad text. Even if the ad’s already running, you can use “Change or Correct an Ad” (find it at the bottom of the page) to add photos after the fact or even change the ones that you currently have posted. Add or change photos at any time, and if you run into difficulty or even just have questions, feel free to give us a buzz. We’ll be happy to help you get your ad picture perfect.

Free & Easy

Quarter

It’s the minimum age to be a candidate to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives. It’s the number of cents in a quarter. And it’s how many years of marriage mark a silver wedding anniversary. No matter how you slice it, 25′s a big deal.

And with us? It’s a free deal.

When you place a commission ad for an item that’s got an asking price of $25 or less,  it’s a free ad. You’ll owe no commission when you sell it. No fees, no charges, no nothing.

Power Up!

lottery

Scholars are pretty sure that it’s how the Great Wall of China was financed. Benjamin Franklin used it to fund the purchase of a cannon to defend Philadelphia. You might have waited with bated breath on Saturday night to see those Powerball results (we did). Ah, lottery. If nothing else, it’s a great excuse to dream!

Whether you’re a gambler or someone who’s hesitant to take any risks, we’ve got the perfect ad for you. If you’re pretty sure of selling your item, pre-paid commission is the ad for you: pay half the commission price when you place the ad, owe nothing when you sell. Best of all? You can run that paid-for ad for 32 issues if you need to. But if you’re not sure if your item will sell, opt for a commission ad. If it sells? Great! If not, we can let the ad expire after its four issue run, and as long as you’ve kept it available for sale, it’ll run out with no charge.

Some say that life’s about taking chances. Sometimes it is, but sometimes it’s better to play it safe. Either way? We’ve got you covered.

Them’s the breaks.

Cleveland

On this day in 1837, President Grover Cleveland was born. He’s the only president to serve two non-consecutive terms; he was both the 22nd and the 24th U.S. President.

We bring up this interesting fact for two reasons. First, we just like odd trivia and historical data. Second, and most importantly, we wanted to remind you that it’s perfectly okay to take a little break: if you’d like to let your ad expire for a little while and put it back in Paper Shop a few weeks later, you can do that. In fact, it’s a strategy that often helps sell.

When we call you to let you know your ad is expiring, just tell us that you’d like to take a break. We promise you that our feelings won’t be hurt. And even when an ad expires, we retain the ad information on our system for a few weeks, so if you’d like to give it another go a little bit later, it’s easy!

Feel Free!

Piggy Bank

There might be no such thing as a free lunch, but there are free ads.

We know that everyone’s trying to save a buck wherever they can, so we offer you this: advertise any item with us for $25 or less, and it’s a completely free ad. No commission, no fees, nada. When you sell that item, you’ll owe us nothing at all.

Remember, too, that when you advertise on a commission basis with us, we don’t require any kind of payment upfront. It’s free to advertise, and the commission comes due when you sell the item – a rather convenient plan, since you can use the proceeds from that sale to cover the commission. Keep in mind, too, that you can advertise most items on a commission basis: from houses to horses, nearly everything can be advertised on a pay-when-you-sell schedule. Best of all? The maximum commission is $70.

We’re all about freedom, so please feel free to call us anytime if you’ve got questions about how we work: 1-800-537-9377

We’re happy to help with and all inquiries, and we’ve found that a number of them are, well, frequently asked questions. Here’s where we take some time to talk about them.

You can paint a pretty or a bleak one. Sometimes you just need to look at the big one. They’re worth a thousand words. We are, of course, talking about pictures. You’ve probably shopped online, so you know how very helpful a picture can be when you’re in the market to buy something.

When you advertise with us, you can post up to four pictures of each item that you’re selling on thepapershop.com. It doesn’t matter if you’re running a commission ad, a pre-paid commission ad, or a pre-paid ad; every ad is entitled to those 4 free photos. And when there are online pictures for your item, we put “See Picture Online” in the print version of the ad so that people who see your item in our book will know that they can look online to check your item out.

You can attach your photos when you’re placing your ad online, or you can use “Change or Correct Ad” to put them in later. Don’t forget that you’re more than welcome to update or change those pictures whenever you wish!
