Anniversary

1st anniversary

Par-tay!

We could fire up the Anniversary Waltz and prepare ourselves for the traditional gift of paper, but you know us … and you know we’ve got our own way of doing things. Besides, we’ve already got paper galore. So instead, we’re going to be spending our first anniversary on the air. And all the gifting will be from us and from a number of our generous advertisers.

May 25th marks the one year anniversary of Paper Shop Live! and we certainly hope you’ll join us for the celebration. We’ll be on the air at our usual 9 AM time slot  on NEPA’s ESPN radio network. We’ve already got a number of pretty impressive giveaways lined up, and we’ll keep adding to that number as we get closer to the big day. Keep up with us on Facebook, Twitter & Google+ as we roll out an exciting roster of prizes.

As always, we welcome you to call the show with your ads, your questions or even to wish us a happy anniversary: 1-888-303-0630.

Love is in the air.

radio

Or maybe it isn’t. We don’t know for sure. But we do know that there has been a piano on the air. And an antique cooler. And both of them sold.

You probably already know that we invite you to join us live on the air every Saturday morning. We’d love you to call Paper Shop Live! and tell our listening audience what it is you’d like to sell. The great thing about getting your ads on the air is that you reach a whole new audience; you never know who’s listening and what they might be interested in.

A few weeks ago, Jack called  Paper Shop Live! to sell his Steinway grand piano. Because it was both a large and rather pricey item, he’d been having a little trouble selling it. Oddly enough, an interested party happened to be driving though the area and picked up the show on his car radio at the very time that Jack was on. We don’t think it was love in the air, but it certainly seemed to be some kind of Paper Shop magic: the traveler called Jack and purchased the Steinway.

Give us a call on Saturday morning at 1-888-303-0630 and get your items out there! Whether it’s online, in print or over the airwaves, we’ve got you covered!

See you in the AM.

radio

And the FM, too.

When you tune in to catch Paper Shop Live! on Saturday mornings, we can be found in a few spots on the dial: 96.1 and 100.1 FM and 630 and 1240AM. While we’re happy that we’re easy to find, we wondered what the difference is between AM and FM radio. We knew from long-ago Science classes that it had something to do with waves, but the details were lost on us. So we did a little research.

AM & FM radio transmit their sound using electromagnetic waves, but the difference lies in how those waves are manipulated to send out a signal. With AM, the strength (amplification) of the waves is varied while FM varies the frequency (how many waves per second).

Both have their benefits & drawbacks, too: FM radio has a better sound quality and can carry a stereo signal. The quality of an AM signal is not nearly as clear, but it can broadcast to a much larger area, which is why it’s so often the purview of talk radio.

Whichever band you prefer, catch a wave & join us at 9 on Saturday!

Fresh Air

We do our very best to be prepared for a fun & interesting broadcast every Saturday. We’re at the ESPN studio in the Times Building in downtown Scranton bright & early. Co-host Kim’s got both her information and her speaking voice all ready to go (possibly powered by caffeine). We’ve reminded people all week that they’re invited to call the show. And yet … the most vital ingredient can’t be prepared in advance.

We can’t spell Paper Shop Live! without U!!! Oh. Wait. We can. *ahem*  Still, we’d never be able to bring you NEPA’s first classified ad program without all the people who take the time to call the show to talk about what they’re selling.

You know, you could be one of those people. It’s pretty easy, and it’s free. We’ve found that it’s a great way to reach a whole new audience, too: not only do we get the folks who tune in to hear the show live, we also get podcast listeners who check it out for the remainder of the week. And every ad that’s on the show appears on thepapershop.com for the whole week, too.

Be brave! Be daring! Most importantly, be successful (and have fun doing it)! Give Kim & Sean a ring this Saturday and tell them what you’d like to sell: 1-888-303-0630

Catch Paper Shop Live! at 9 every Saturday morning on NEPA’s ESPN radio network at 96.1 & 100.1 FM or 630 & 1240AM.

Forward, March!

March

We’re hoping that it comes in like a lion! There, we said it. We’re willing to handle that roar as long as March goes out like a lamb.

All told, it’s a pretty exciting month:  St. Patrick’s Day, March Madness, and – most excitingly – our flooring giveaway. We’ve teamed up with Giant Floor to give away $2000 in brand new floors, and we’ll be drawing the second of three winners on March 28th.

We’ll continue to seize the airwaves every Saturday to bring you Paper Shop Live! so tune in to see what’s for sale, what’s been sold and what kind of on-air giveaways we’ve got. We’ll be kicking off March’s broadcasts with the last of our Snö Mountain lift ticket giveaways this Saturday, so tune in and win! You can catch us on NEPA’s ESPN radio network: 96.1 & 100.1FM or 630 & 1240AM

You called?

We’re getting ready to seize the airwaves! And if you were waiting for an invitation to join us on the air, consider this the invite (no RSVP required). You’re more than welcome to call Paper Shop Live! and tell us what you’d like to sell. Or buy, for that matter.  Best of all? It’s free to do.

If you’ve not yet checked out the show, take a listen to the podcast of last week’s show to see what it’s all about. You’ll hear me, Jen, on the air; I’ll be co-hosting this week’s show, too, and I’d be happy to talk with you on the air about what you’ve got to sell.

You can find us on the dial at 96.1 & 100.1FM or 630 & 1240AM on Saturdays between 9-10 AM. And, of course, the phone lines are open – give us a call at 1-888-303-0630.

The Broadcast & The Podcast

SmallPSLivelogo

We’re generally pretty big advocates of seizing the day. But we have to admit that one of the great things about the internet is that it gives us a chance to share the podcast of each & every edition of Paper Shop Live! You can check it out here whenever you like.

Aside from giving as many people as possible a chance to catch a show they may have missed, we’re also getting an opportunity to give the show’s callers even more exposure. There’s the added benefit, too, of making it possible for anyone interested in any of the items for sale to listen again to the description, catch any details they may have missed and get (or confirm) the phone number of the seller.  Remember, too, that every single ad placed on air is online, too: thepapershop.com

One ad you won’t see, however, is Don’s ad for a Red Barons jersey – he’s already sold it to a listener of Saturday’s broadcast.

Hint: you can pull up all the ads from this week’s show by tying in “as advertised on Paper Shop Live on NEPA’s ESPN Radio” or even just “as advertised” in the search field on our website.

Call of Duty …

radio microphone

… okay, maybe not duty. But certainly opportunity!

We like free. And from what we hear, so do you. We offer free advertisements, free photos, free giveaways, all kinds of free stuff – but did you know that we also give you the chance to drum up some attention for what you’re selling? And that the opportunity is, like so much else with us, completely free?

Call Paper Shop Live!, place your ad on air and we’ll get the word out on the local ESPN radio stations while also posting your items on thepapershop.com for the better part of a week. It’s free to place that ad, and it’ll cost you nothing if you sell the item that you advertised during the broadcast.

Not only is it free, it’s also easy to do. When you call the show, you’ll be talking to either Kim or Jen (me). We’ll take the information about the ad, maybe ask you some questions about it, and help you showcase your item to its best advantage. We’ve both been helping folks with ads for years, and we’re there to lend our expertise to callers while making the whole thing easy and fun.

Make that Saturday morning a productive one! Give Paper Shop Live! a call between 9-10 am and let us show you what we can do: 1-888-303-0630

(Remember, too, that we’ll be welcoming your tweets during the show tomorrow. Got a question about an ad you’re hearing? Tweet it and we’ll ask it.)

Sales … Out Of Thin Air!

radio microphone

Can you hear me now? Yes? Good! I’d like to hear you, too.

If you’ve listened to the Paper Shop Live! radio broadcast on Saturday mornings, you know that we’re completely live on the air and that the broadcasts really do end up being a mixed bag. Always fun, always interesting, but not the kind of thing that you can walk into that studio & fully predict. And that, my friends, is a good thing – and exactly what we like.

If you’re thinking of calling in an advertisement, do it! You’ll be on the air with Kim or Jen (me), both longtime Paper Shop employees & neither particularly experienced in radio. We’re just regular people like you. What we are experienced in, however, is taking ads and helping people sell their stuff; that’s why we’re right there with you as you place your ad on the air during the live broadcast.

Best of all? It really is free advertising. Not only do you get to reach our radio audience with your ad, we also put that ad up on thepapershop.com for the week, so you’ll reach our online audience, too (not to mention the listeners of the weekly podcasts – posted on our Twitter & Facebook feeds). And all of it’s free. No obligation; in fact, the only information we’ll ask when you place the ad is your first name, your city and a number that interested buyers can use to reach you.

So don’t be shy! If I can get on the air, so can you! Give us a call between 9-10 on Saturday mornings and tell us what you’ve got! 1-888-303-0630 Join us on NEPA’s ESPN radio network: 96.1/100.1FM & 630/1240AM

Calling all (vintage) cars!

antiquecarcrop

There are used cars. And then there are used cars of the antique sort. Our Antique Autos & Parts category is one of our hottest sections, including everything from vintage cars to antique truck parts. Some of the cars are long-term projects while others are classic muscle cars for sale, all ready to show.

The thing about antique vehicles is that specific vehicles often have their own die-hard following. So one collector my be on the hunt for, say, antique Ford hubcaps while another couldn’t be bothered with anything other than Dodge pickup parts. It’s no surprise, then, that Antique Autos is the category most likely to contain a “Wanted to Buy” ad. We also encourage collectors to call us on the air during our weekly broadcast of Paper Shop Live! to tell us about what old cars (or even parts of old cars) they’d love to find.
