Anniversary

1st anniversary

Par-tay!

We could fire up the Anniversary Waltz and prepare ourselves for the traditional gift of paper, but you know us … and you know we’ve got our own way of doing things. Besides, we’ve already got paper galore. So instead, we’re going to be spending our first anniversary on the air. And all the gifting will be from us and from a number of our generous advertisers.

May 25th marks the one year anniversary of Paper Shop Live! and we certainly hope you’ll join us for the celebration. We’ll be on the air at our usual 9 AM time slot  on NEPA’s ESPN radio network. We’ve already got a number of pretty impressive giveaways lined up, and we’ll keep adding to that number as we get closer to the big day. Keep up with us on Facebook, Twitter & Google+ as we roll out an exciting roster of prizes.

As always, we welcome you to call the show with your ads, your questions or even to wish us a happy anniversary: 1-888-303-0630.

Thanks!

thanks

We’re closing in on the 200 post mark (and our 6 month anniversary), and we’d just like to take a moment to thank you for keeping up with us.

As always, you’re welcome to comment here, say hello on Facebook, throw a tweet our way, or even contact me, the blog author, at jenk@thepapershop.com. I am happy to answer your questions and I’m always open to suggestions regarding the kind of things you’d like to find out about Paper Shop and all the interesting items we advertise.

Your support & readership is most appreciated. Thank you!

On Time

spacetime

Stop. Pause. Rewind. Tinker with the space-time continuum (well, sort of).

If you miss a Saturday morning broadcast of Paper Shop Live!, there’s always the not-so-live version: the podcast. It’s not only a chance to catch up if you missed the show, it’s also a great way to get any details or contact information you might have missed on items of interest.

You can always find a link to the podcast on our website. In addition, we post links to hear the replay on Facebook, Twitter & Google+.

Knock on Wood

flooring

It’s a staple of home remodeling programs and a feature of homebuying shows: the unexpected wood floor. Who wouldn’t (woodn’t?) want to find beautiful hardwood floors tucked under all that old carpeting?

If you’re feeling curious, there are a few ways to get an idea if you’ve got some hidden hardwood. First, try going to your basement & looking upward at the underside of the floor; most hardwood is tongue-and-groove. If you’ve got them, heat registers are another spot to take a sneak peak at what’s underneath; remove them and you’ll get a look at what’s under that carpet.

Or you could take the easiest (and most fun) route: enter to win new floors. We’ve teamed up with Giant Floor to give away new flooring, and it’s pretty easy to win. You can fill out the coupon you’ll find in any issue or Paper Shop, like us on Facebook or purchase an online subscription, and – voila! – you’re automatically entered.

So knock on wood (or laminate. Or tile.) that you’ll be the winner we draw on May 23.

Run with it.

5K

Nothing makes us happier than running your ads. But we’re also delighted to run your runs. And rummage sales. And golf tournaments.

Best of all? We do it for free.

We pride ourselves on being a small local business, and we’re also proud of the folks who live and work in our area. That’s why we gladly feature the non-profit events of local fire companies, schools, churches, and other organizations. If you give us the details about what you’ve got in the works, we’ll not only post it on our Non-Profit Events page, we’ll also do our very best to give it a mention on our Facebook, Twitter & Google+ feeds in order to help you get the largest possible audience for your happening.

It’s pretty easy to let us know what’s going on, too. You’ll find an entry form on thepapershop.com. Simply fill it out, submit it, and we’ll do the rest.

High Five!

High Five

April 18th is National High Five Day.

In the spirit of this, we tried to high-five you from our computer, but the results … well, they were less than spectacular. And even if they weren’t, you wouldn’t have seen mind-blowing high-five we had planned, anyway.

It seems that we’ll just have to settle for a simple but heartfelt ‘thank you’. Thank you for advertising with us, for keeping up with us on here, and for liking and following us on Facebook & Twitter. We truly appreciate it.

Getting Social

facebook

We are rather social beasts here at Paper Shop. We’re not only here on the phones Monday through Friday to take your ads and answer your questions, we’re also available on Facebook, Twitter & Google+. Don’t hesitate to comment, tweet or even message us – we’ve got a longtime Paper Shop employee manning the switches here, and we’re happy to help!

We also welcome you to help us shape this very blog. While we try to be informative & entertaining, it’s possible that there might be questions you have or even just random information you’d like to know. Feel free to contact me via email at jenk@thepapershop.com and tell me what you’re thinking.

We’re not only all ads, we’re all ears. Talk to us! We’re listening.

No Fooling: April At Last!

April

It’s National Poetry Month. And National Guitar Month. Don’t forget that April’s National Welding Month, too. It brings us Arbor Day and Earth Day. And we’ve got our prom giveaway coming up in just a few days. So, really, what’s not to like?

Crocus buds aren’t the only thing growing – so are our Lawn & Patio, Lawnmower, Motorcycle & Boat categories. And while we’re bidding winter a not-so-fond farewell, remember that now’s the time to get some great deals on the winter goodies, since folks just don’t want to store them for the upcoming season; look for some real steals on snowmobiles and snow blowers!

We’re also got some great giveaways in the works. Keep up with us on Facebook or catch us every Saturday at 9am as we bring you Paper Shop Live! on NEPA’s ESPN Radio.

Contact Us!

web

Maybe you’re just a casual reader here. Or maybe you’re someone who’s more comfortable communicating via email. Either way, you’re welcome to contact me. We’re always trying to address questions that people might have about Paper Shop, and whether you’ve got a query about our policies, an inquiry about our history or even just an oddball question, I’d love to hear from you. Sock it to me at jenk@thepapershop.com

Remember, too, that we welcome questions, comments and suggestions everywhere else, too. Feel free to message us on Facebook or tweet us. We’re not only all ads, we’re all ears, too.

Snow Days

Snow Day

Before the days of the internet, we remember listening to local radio on snowy mornings to find out about school cancellations and delays. You really had to time it well, though, because the names of the schools were read in alphabetical order, and if you happened to tune in just past your school’s spot in the ABC’s, you’d need to keep listening until the alphabet ran full circle to that particular letter. To this day, whenever we hear certain local ad jingles, it takes us right back to those snowy winter mornings and that special anticipation that if we were lucky, we just might get an unexpected day off from school.

Perhaps that’s why we’re big fans of local radio. We’re proud to bring you a brand new show every Saturday morning, and each time we show up at the Times Building in downtown Scranton to take over the airwaves, we feel like we’re part of something really special. If you haven’t yet tuned in, join us this Saturday at 9 AM. You can find us on the dial at 96.1 & 100.1FM or at 630 & 1240AM. If you miss the broadcast, listen online to the podcast of the show. We also post links to each week’s podcast on Facebook, Twitter & Google+.
